Summary

According to some estimates, online returns and excess inventory cost retailers $800 billion per year in losses. (Source) This company has created an inventory management system by leveraging software solutions that match these excess goods from retailers, brands and other sources with communities in need. The company offers a proprietary software platform that allows retailers that are looking to offload excess of returned merchandise and connects them with nonprofits that can use them. On the supply side, the company mostly works with retailers that have excess inventory sitting in warehouses. Retailers face the issue that 80% of the returns end up in landfills. To avoid that, the system then matches those with the nonprofits and schools that need them using our matching algorithm, and we coordinate all the logistics to get them there. (Source)

Story

Founders Disney Petit and Chai Nadig were both early employees at Postmates. In 2021, they founded Liquidonate to solve the problem of excess inventory going to waste. Petit and Nadig knew that companies are looking for solutions to get rid of excess inventory and also knew that a platform connecting them to nonprofits would be beneficial. As of 2023, the company has been certified as a green business.

Retailers also face the issue that 80 percent of returns end up in landfills. It’s costly to the environment and the retailer, who has to pay to get the item back just to throw it away. Our system matches those unwanted returns with a nearby nonprofit or school, instantly producing a shipping label for the customer to send it directly to them. This way, we solve the problem of excess inventory and returns for retailers while providing nonprofits and schools with much-needed donations.
