Summary
Tastee Tape is a student‑invention from Johns Hopkins University that serves as an edible adhesive tape intended to keep burritos, tacos, wraps, gyros, or similar foods from falling apart while eating. (Source) The tape is made from an edible adhesive comprising a food-grade fibrous scaffold and an organic adhesive, and the formula is proprietary and is patent-pending. the ingredients are food-grade and are common food and dietary additives. The tape comes attached to sheets of wax paper, and a user can simply remove the tape, weit it and paste it on the food. As of September 2025, Tastee Tape is not yet commercially available for purchase. According to the official website, the product is still in development and is not currently sold online or in stores. Tastee Tape was recognized as TIME”s Invention of the Year in 2022. Today, the company is focused on creating sustainable packaging in the food arena, like edible Saran-wrap and other films to replace the use of single-use plastic films.
Story
Tastee Tape was developed by a team (Tyler Guarino, Marie Eric, Rachel Nie, and Erin Walsh), it came out as a capstone projectof chemical and biomoleculr engineering seniors at John Hopkinds University during “Design Day”, an event run at the university. Their motivation was simple: they were tired of messy, unraveling burritos. (Source) After completing her master’s degree in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Johns Hopkins and recently graduating from IndieBio’s NY accelerator program, Eric is now running the company as CEO.
