The circle of it: This company creates naturally-derived dyes created from agricultural waste to replace the use of synthetic dyes that pollute the environment.

SAGES
Summary
Sages tackles the problem of pollution to our waterways, and the environment in general due to the pervasive use of synthetic dyes. During the processing of clothes, especially the dying process, the runoff from dyes, which are toxic and carcinogenic, goes straight into rivers and streams and has a negative impact on marine life. To tackle the problem of the use of synthetic dyes, Sages processes non-edible food waste to bring natural dyes that can be used for a variety of applications. The company pioneers phytochemical extractions and biochemical dyeing processes for sustainable colorations to be used in a wide variety of applications, from textiles to papers and inks. The dyes are designed to be a like-for-like replacement for synthetic dyes and are being made available in a wide range of commercial colors spanning pinks, blues, greens, yellows and purples. Story
Co-founders Emily Taylor and Alice Simpson met during their time at the London College of Fashion. They both wanted to tackle problems related to sustainability in fashion. Both founders had backgrounds working in fashion and were aware of the negative impacts on the environment by big fashion brands. Sages was formed in 2021. (Source)

“Synthetic dyes account for 80% of emissions in the fashion industry— it’s a huge problem. If I addressed a broader audience, though, it would be more challenging. I would encourage people to stop buying fast fashion. I know this is easier said than done, as fast fashion is often more affordable and expensive clothes are not necessarily better for the environment either.“
