MYRO

The circle of it: This company is offering personal hygiene products in reusable containers.

myro

Summary

Myro offers sustainable alternatives to bodycare products in reusable packaging that can be refilled. Traditional body care products like shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, floss, etc. come in plastic containers that are tossed after the product is used up. As an alternative, Myro offers a reusable and refillable option that is user friendly to get more consumers to switch to reusable options. The company launched as a direct to consumer business but has also recently launched in big retail chains like Target. Myro’s first product was a gender-neutral deodorant which came in a reusable and recyclable plastic case with refill sticks housed in a recyclable HDPE tube.  Since their first product, the company has also expanded to include other products like shower gel. Story

Founder Greg Laptevsky founded Myro in 2017 after his prior job at a meal kit company called Plated where he did a lot of consumer research. In his research, he found that people are looking for better ingredients and to reduce packaging ,and he realized that there was a big market in reusable packaging and other ventures that are “better for the planet.” (Source) With this insight, Laptevsky introspected about this personal care routine and thought about the waste associated with personal care products, and thus Myro was born.

“It turns out that consumers implicitly have a very different standard for objects they intend to keep versus those that are meant to be discarded.”
