Worn wear
Summary
Patagonia’s Worn Wear is the company’s platform for keeping it’s gear used for the longest time possible, thereby keeping high-quality items in circulations for a longer period of time. The company makes sure that all items are clean, functional and verified. Items in need of repair are repaired. Worn Wear sells used Patagonia gear online and in select stores and also offers trade-in credit for items that are no longer in use. The company also promotes re-use and sustainability by offers guides for DIY repair and care, and items that can be no longer salvaged are downcycled or recycled. Worn Wear also features a blog that shares “Worn Wear Stories,” educating people on sustainability and re-use and making it more relatable to its consumers. Today Worn Wear has over 70 repair centers located in Patagonia stores all over the world that repair clothing for free or for a nominal charge. (Source)
Story
Worn Wear began as a blog started by Keith and Lauren Malloy in 2012. The couple envisioned a place for people to share stories about their favorite Patagonia products and the “badges of honor” that recall outdoor memories. The blog inspired Patagonia to expand its repair service, and eventually start a used clothing business. (Source) The couple also made a documentary called “Stories we Wear” in 2013. (Source)

“It’s cool just to educate on why it’s important to repair your stuff: If you have a hole in your jacket to not think, ‘This is the end of the jacket,’ but instead your first thought should be, ‘How can I repair this?’”
