Summary

Green Toys offers a tangible way for consumers to their products to see how a product used in their kitchen can be integrated back into the playroom through Toys. The company uses recycled milk jugs and other types of recycled plastic to create a range of toys, and makes sure that the packaging of the toys is compostable and free of plastic. The plastic is collected by waste management facilities where it is cleaned and shredded into flakes and reprocessed into a virgin material. The plastic is then treated with other additives and coloring to create the material that can be shaped into new toys. The milk jugs used are 100% post-consumer recycled high-density polyethylene (HDPE), recycled polypropylene (PP) or recycled low-density polyethylene (LDPE). By using recycled plastic, the company diverts material from landfills and saves energy. (Source) Today, the company sells toys at over 3,000 retail locations in the US, and have a global sales in over 90 countries.

Story

Founders Laurie Hyman and her husband Robert Von Goeben wanted an alternative to traditional toys when they looks around their children’s playroom in dismay. The couple decided to make socially responsible and enviromentally friendly children’s products. (Source) They started with basic children’s toys, but have now moved into other markets including a kitchen play line that is food and dishwasher safe. The company is proud to have kept its manufacturing in the US.
