The circle of it: This App fights food waste by connecting food businesses having excess food to consumers who want the food at a lower price, thereby creating an additional sales channel for food that otherwise would have been wasted.

Summary
Too Good to Go presents an app for fighting food waste by providing a means for food businesses to communicate about potentially good food that may otherwise get wasted. Consumers of the app are able to pick up food at a discounted price, thereby providing an additional means of revenue to the business in addition to preventing waste. Consumers are empowered to fight food waste in their local communities because the app presents a win-win solution in which consumers get great food at a discounted rate, and businesses do not have to throw up delicious surplus.
Story
One third of all food produced today is wasted; sometimes salvaged as animal fed, but a shocking percentage is sent to landfill. In addition to the ethical and social problems caused by this, the environmental impact of this practice means that food waste is responsible for 10% of all global greenhouse gas emissions and 28% of agricultural lands worldwide are used to produce food that will eventually be wasted. The initial idea of the founders was to focus on food waste in buffet restaurants, but they later realized it could be extended to all types of food providers such as restaurants, cafes, bakeries, and even grocery stores.

“As consumers, the general public has huge power! Our choices have a massive impact, even the small choices are important and we do not have to change everything at home all in one go. Starting by eating less meat, buying loose non-packaged foods where possible, cooking and eating leftovers rather than throwing them away… there are so many easy steps anyone can do.”
