The circle of it: This company is making biodegradable shoes from algae-based polyurethanes and other biodegradable materials.
Blueview footwear
Summary
BlueView Footwear produces biodegradable shoes that will breakdown in a compostable environment in about 6 months, in contrast to traditional sneakers or other footwear that take about 300 years to decompose. Rather than using traditional plastics like conventional shoes, Blueview utilizes Soleic TM technology, created by Algenesis, and other biodegradable materials. The company also created “PlantKnit”, a fully biodegradable machine knitter shoe upper made from hemp, cotton, jute and Tencel.
Story
Co-founders Dr. Stephen Mayfield and Tom Cooke combined their expertise in biofuels and footwear respectively with their shared passion and love for surfing and the environment to create this company.
