Summary
Food insecurity still persists as a problem for 1 in 7 Americans despite the fact that there is surplus food that routinely goes to landfill due to inefficiencies in the supply chain. Goodr tackles this problem by identifying and facilitating the pickup and the donation of excess food from large enterprises and distributing it to communities in need through non-profits. To do this, they utilize their SaaS platform through which businesses are able to measure and manage their surplus food and organic waste, earn tax savings, and drastically reduce their carbon footprint by producing less waste that ends up in landfills. In addition to earning tax credits, Goodr’s enterprise clients also leverage the technology to manage their waste efficiently which also doing social good. Goodr has built backend logistics including transportation and distribution systems to collect food efficiently and distribute them to nonprofits as needed.
Story
Founder Jasmine Crowe was involved in the social impact nonprofit space and had her own hunger initiative called Sunday Soul through which she served food for those experiencing food insecurity and homelessness. A video of one of her events went viral and Crowe started getting interest from people, many of whom wondered where she was getting donations from. The reality was that up until then Crowe was couponing and cooking the food herself for her events. Crowe realized then that she could find a way to connect those with excess food to initiatives like hers and set out to make technology to manage and execute her vision. (Source)

“I don’t see hunger as an issue of scarcity; I look at it as a matter of logistics. We’ve built a really robust logistics partner network and we’re going to have more and more that will allow us to turn on markets everywhere.”
