Summary

Cabinet Health provides compostable and refillable solutions to replace the ubiquitous use of single-use plastic in the healthcare system. The pharmaceutical industry is responsible for the use of around 190 billion single-use plastic pill bottles every year. (Source) The company sells a number of over-the-counter pills, including allergy relief pills, mucus relief pills, nasal decongestants, antacids, sleep aids, painkillers and others in a chid-safe reusable glass medicine bottles. Refills can be purchased in compostable bags that can then be emptied into the glass bottle. The company has conducted testing to ensure that the compostable pills are free to allergens, carcinogens and gluten. The compostable bags can be composted in an industrial composting facility. The company also plans to launch a take-back program to collect and compost these compostable pouches. As part of a beta program focused on prescription medications, the startup is currently filling prescription pills for about 100 people, predominantly for depression and diabetes (Source)

Story

Co-founders Achal Patel and Russell Gong met each other in Deloitte Consulting more than 10 years ago. Both men were drawn to put their strengths together “to do something related to climate change, the environment, and health.” (Source) They decided to utilize Patel’s experience as a third generation pharmaceutical entrepreneur with Gong’s experience focusing on sustainable products and brand building. The company was launched in 2018. In 2022, the duo were invited to appear on Sharktank and is currently working to finalize the deal.
