BUNDLEE

The circle of it: This company offers a rental service for baby clothes, thereby encouraging reuse and bringing back resources to the business.

Summary

Bundlee is UK’s baby’s clothing subscription service. The customer signs up for the subscription service and pays a monthly subscription fee to receive a set of baby clothes based on the baby’s age and requirements (gendered, unisex, etc.). The customer keeps the clothes for as long as they fit the baby and then send them back to Bundlee to receive the next size up. The clothes are either new or “preloved,” but the idea is to keep the baby clothes in circulation for as long as possible. Once the clothes are returned and the next size is requested, Bundlee takes care of cleaning and getting the clothes ready for the next customer. The clothing bundles are designed such that they cover a range of uses for the baby’s first few months/years and the customer should have no need to go out and buy additional clothes.

Story

Founder Eve Kekeh was the eldest sibling in her family growing up and saw firsthand how quickly her little siblings outgrew their clothes. Once they clothes were outgrown they just piled around in the house and had no further use. She was also moved and disappointed with the problem of fast fashion and the poor quality of most clothing manufactured. She had some experience renting clothes with some women’s clothing rental companies in the US and wanted to create a similar service for babies in the UK.

“People know kids grow fast, but it’s hard to quantify just how many clothes they get through. Babies outgrow seven clothing sizes in their first two years. Constantly buying new clothes for growing babies is a huge cost to parents. It’s also a huge cost to the environment – it takes 250 litres of water and 2kg of carbon to produce a single baby-grow. It really is the ultimate fast fashion. “
